Protection of the financial sovereignty of the Russian Federation in the context of escalated international economic and political conflicts

DOI: 10.33917/mic-3.128.2026.96-103

The current state of the economy of the Russian Federation and, in particular, its financial sector is characterized by an avalanche-like growth of challenges and threats. The origin of this trend dates back to 2014, when the events taking place in Ukraine (the coup d’etat, harsh anti-Russian rhetoric and aggressive foreign policy towards Russia) created an urgent need to protect the national interests of the Russian Federation, which in turn gave rise to an annual growing confrontation with the countries of the so-called «collective West» led by the United States of America. Under the current conditions, the issues of ensuring the economic security of the Russian Federation and, in particular, the protection of its financial sovereignty are becoming particularly relevant.
